International success for a global university

Heriot-Watt’s global status has been underlined by our highest ever ranking in the QS World University Rankings, rising to 318th in the world, up from 352 last year. This is Heriot-Watt’s highest position to date in any international ranking, and particularly pleasing in a league table which is itself becoming increasingly prominent.

The leap in the University’s ranking relates to measurable improvements in the University’s performance and is also influenced by changes in QS weighting and methodologies. Professor Julian Jones, Vice-Principal, said, “This is a tremendous result for Heriot-Watt as a global player, and reflects the efforts of colleagues at all levels of the University, in the UK and abroad.”

The University was also ranked in the world’s top ten for our proportion of international students, with Imperial College, the London School of Economics and St Andrews, and is top in Scotland and in the UK top ten for our proportion of international faculty.

Overall, Heriot-Watt is ranked joint 38th (up 3 places from 41st last year) and we are 5th in Scotland (same as last year)

In the individual subject tables, we are ranked in the UK top ten for five subjects

  • Building (4th, up from 5th last year
  • Chemical Engineering (5th, up from 7th)
  • Art & Design (8th, up from 29th)
  • Mechanical Engineering (8th, up from 15th)
  • General Engineering (9th, down from 6th)

Similarly, we are top in Scotland for four subjects and are ranked in the top 3 in Scotland for seven subjects:

  • 1st in Scotland: Building (up from 2nd last year), Chemical Engineering (same as last year), Mechanical Engineering (up from 2nd), Town & Country Planning and Landscape (same as last year)

Hadith Prophet Muhammad

It is narrated on the authority of Amirul Mu’minin, Abu Hafs ‘Umar bin al-Khattab, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, say: “Actions are (judged) by motives (niyyah) , so each man will have what he intended. Thus, he whose migration (hijrah) was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, his migration is to that for which he migrated.” [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Abu Hamzah Anas bin Malik, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who was the servant of the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, reported that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, said: “None of you truly believes (in Allah and in His religion) until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

About History

The urgent of reading history is that we become aware of his past life, progress and destruction of a nation, understand the wisdom behind the nation's history, feel the love, angry, sad, all within the scope of history. Because history is an art. Art is beauty. So people who do not know history, its own history, at least then he would not know the beauty of the wheel of life that applies to every person.
